I've not done many things..but here're some stuff I've been doing lately.
I am honestly very excited + feeling honoured doing this work, the Poppies. Not just because I am interested in Army stuff, but it is historically very important icon in Britain. And considering how strong and iconic the colours are, I am well enjoying working on this project.
I have made numbers of poppies (1st generation!) last few days. They were born in similar shapes, and now slowly turning into individual badges. I was maybe too excited colouring those, so had to control myself not to add too much 'style' on it so anyone can say it is 'Poppy'.
I started thinking of making my own poppies when I ended up having four or five poppies due to its weak format - because I wear it every day, the poppies were worn out so quick. So I thought, I can make them with paper clay then it'll be strong enough to wear it proudly 24/7.!
Basically I followed the shape of the original badge. I also use my well used poppies and other poppy petals which I got from the military show in Dartmoor, Devon last year. They performed a display parachuting there, and at the end hundreds and thousands of poppies were falling from the sky. I collected five or so, and used them as a part of badges. :-)
I use muslin fabric as well - firstly I like the material, but more likely it symbolise 'bandage' which is used for casualties.
So, the title of this blog says it. I need more used badges in order to make more badges.! I know I could just make them without recycling ol'ones, but I think this way is better, is more meaningful.
I already twittered it, but anyone who sees this blog and has some used poppies, please email or make a comment here so I could arrange a pickup or delivery.! I will use them for badges then the badges will be back for those who helped me in late Jan/early Feb.
Okay, am off to work again..wi' a wee dram.! Happy holidays everyone. :-)
